Hanging it Up
This wagon wheel and that classy blue harness draped over it grabbed my attention, perhaps because of the combination of colors and the way the natural light hit them. It was also the subject matter that captivated me. I was in a barn in a long-abandoned 1800's Colorado mining town, now considered a "ghost town."
What is the backstory to this scene? I thought of a grizzled old stagecoach driver who had experienced years of exciting action. After a long, successful career (success meant surviving), he completed his very last ride. He unstrapped the harness from the wagon and horses, placed it on this wheel, and called it a day. Actually he was done with driving a stagecoach for good.
He was "hanging it up" as the expression goes.
Is this accurate? I have no idea. Do you see it similarly? What backstory, if any, does it conjure up for you?
